A hybrid event entitled “+SOCIETY: Participatory planning for urban mobility”, organized in the framework of the project “DEMo4PPL: Digital Education Modules 4 Participatory Planning (Erasmus+), by the Laboratory of Infrastructure, Technology Policy, was successfully completed on Tuesday, March 26 and Development.

The event is part of the awareness raising activities of the DEMo4PPL project and is one of the four events organised in the each of the countries of the participating partners. The event featured a number of experts sharing their insights on the subject of participatory planning for urban mobility and the full programme of the event is presented below.

18:00-18:15: Greeting by the Dean of the Polytechnic School of the University of Thessaly, Teti Nathanail, Dean of the Polytechnic School, Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Thessaly

18:15-18:30: Presentation of the DEMo4PPL project, the program and the speakers of the event by Nikos Gavanas, Scientific Project Manager, Assistant Professor, Department of Planning and Regional Development, University of Thessaly

18:30-18:50: Challenges of urban mobility by Magda Pichiava, Professor Emeritus, Department of Civil Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

18:50-19:10: Twisted planning in complex large projects & participation: Examples from the Athens Metro by Pantelis Skayannis, Emeritus Professor, Department of Planning and Regional Development, University of Thessaly

19:10-19:30: Teaching the subject of participatory planning: Experiences and perspectives by Georgia Pozoukidou, Associate Professor, Department of Spatial Planning and Development, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

19:30-19:50: Participatory planning in practice: The case of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans in Greece by Eleni Verani, Transport Specialist – Spatial Planner, Urban Planning and Regional Development Engineer

The event closed with a discussion from both on-line and on-site participants on the topics presented by the guest speakers, providing many opportunities for fruitful debate and knowledge sharing amongst the audience, which included experts, students and teaching staff, as well as professional planners and transport engineers.
