DEMo4PPL aims to develop and test an innovative modular curriculum, supported by the purposeful use of digital education tools, for teaching and training in Participatory Planning (PPL) and digital PPL tools, based on the needs and aspirations of HEIs.
It aims to enhance readiness and capacity of HEIs to incorporate state-of-the-art participatory approaches in their curricula, while providing students and practitioners with skills to practice effective PPL.
As digital PPL tools are becoming increasingly relevant to contemporary spatial planning and territorial development (Wilson et al, 2022), the project will address the corresponding labour market demand by offering modular education options to better prepare students and practitioners.
This will enable more effective PPL, directly linked to citizen engagement in planning and development.
Thus, partners will develop learning pathways towards education and training, based on the assessment of their needs, gaps and good practice.
Building on these pathways, a Modular Participatory Planning Curriculum (ModPPC) will be developed, comprising core and optional modules that enable designing new courses or complementing existing ones at undergraduate, postgraduate and life-long learning level.
Optional modules will also allow thematic focus and immersion. The project incorporates assessment by educators, students, practitioners and external experts and hands-on practice.
digital transformation through strengthening readiness, resilience and capacity of HEIs. Based on Open Educational Resources (OER), it will develop a Digital pedagogy toolkit tailored to each module, and an open-access online Knowledge Hub that will provide material, resources and good practice.
Keeping in mind the 2 priorities of the Digital Education Action Plan, the project will draw from digital pedagogy platforms and hubs (e.g. EPALE, the European Digital Education Hub and digital pedagogy toolkits available from EU projects) to maximize efficiency and impact.
Moreover, the joint pilot will be based on remote learning technologies, while a “train the trainers” activity will offer up-to date skills to educators. The pilot will be concluded with hands-on practice in PPL studios with the voluntary participation of students, staff, local stakeholders and citizen representatives.
Taking into consideration the Erasmus+ Inclusion and Diversity Strategy and the protocols of the involved HEIs, the use of digital education and training tools throughout the project will ensure access and enable participation by people with fewer opportunities due to economic, social, cultural, geographical or health reasons, migrant background, disabilities or educational difficulties or for any other reason, including discriminations, as references under Article 21 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, and promote gender neutral approaches.
